Patent Infringement Dispute Between Samsung & Apple Finally Comes to An End!
After 7 long years, two mobile giants Samsung and Apple disputes has ended. The clash had started since 2011 over the functionality and designs in their tablets and smartphones. The dispute is said to be involved more on their individual stakes rather than monetary claims. However, the terms of the settlement between these company are still unclear.
As notified by District Court in San Jose, California, both the companies decided to settle and drop their remaining counterclaims, while the court of Northern District of California dismissed the suits. The settlement between these smartphone companies brings an official end to the “smartphone wars”.
Back in May, Apple said, “ We believe deeply in the value of design, and our teams work tirelessly to create innovative products that delight our customers. This case has always been about more than money. Apple ignited the smartphone revolution with iPhone and it is a fact that Samsung blatantly copied our design. It is important that we continue to protect the hard work and innovation of so many people at Apple.”
The battle between the two companies came to a highlight in 2012 after the inner workings of the company got exposed. The settlement for the case was made in 2014. The courtroom trail had awarded Apple with a whopping amount of $1.05 billion for infringement. Followingly, Apple had to pay $539 million for violating patent rights in 2010 and 2011.
