  1. Thorough check debit & credit card: Make sure to go through your debit and credit statements and individually verify each and every transaction. The reason for doing so is because most of the time you will be giving in your credit and debit card number in amazon, flip kart, and other e-commerce sites. There are chances of data leakage where you too might not be spared. So, it is important to check the daily activities of your card.   • Store your cards away from wandering eyes: One way of doing so is through third-party vendor payments that protects the interests of funding source.   • Set pull payments rather than push: When paying for any service most of the time the linked funding source will “push” payments to vendor instead of “pulling” funds from account. Transferring of funds give you greater control on your transactions and immediately alerts you about any potentially fraudulent activity.

 

  • Be alert on phishing mail: Stay alert while going through your mail box. Be aware of e-mails with picture in attached files, they may contain malware. Only open attachments from known sender and make sure to use anti-virus scanner while downloading or opening the files. Never respond to unsolicited e-mails and unknown links.

 

  • Don’t fill in any random forms: Plenty of times to attract customers during holiday seasons random forms are published where the sites ask for personal and account info. To lure more, many gift hampers, lottery’s with high amount, branded goods are released. Just for getting free gifts, consumers fill in forms and reveal every tit-bits of information which is in fact dangerous. So, don’t fill in forms which are from untrusted sites. With the intention of making small amount or just with the purpose of acquiring free gifts you may end up losing high amount.

 

  • Beware of SMS phishing: Even if you are aware of brand names that you want to subscribe to they could be fraudulent. Any brand names when sending SMS will definitely give in their official website, so go through the websites before subscribing it.

 

  • Use official websites: When logging in make sure to use official websites rather than compromised e-mail links. If you receive e-mail from banks or other companies which you deal frequently with cross check their contact info. Similarly, verify personal info by contacting them through information on official website. If any requests are of emergency nature don’t respond immediately it may be fraud. Fraudsters do know how to achieve quick reactions by creating the urge of emergency.

 

  • Remember if any information looks too good to be true it probably is.
